Central Park

The weather is cooperating over the weekend, sunshine, great days!!

We went to have a walk at central park on Saturday. We saw lots of squirrels out, they want us to feed them, but we were not prepared! Jay wanted to trick them by throwing some small rocks at them, I scolded him. He is very bad. haha... He said maybe they will mistaken rocks as peanuts wor... speechless me..

Next day, we went back to the park again. But this time, the hours were later. So perhaps someone fed them already. They don't seem very desperate unlike the previous day. They are lazily walking here and there... now, we holding the peanuts are the desperate ones. This world is so funny. Sigh... anyway, we really have fun feeding the squirrels. And we found out that the crows also fighting the peanuts with squirrels, and we thought they are meat eaters!

Happy Anniversary

Exactly one year ago, we came to this land.

It was so amazing to realize time really pass by so quickly, wait for no one.

During this one year, we made lots of decisions together, we laughed a lot, sometimes cry a bit (mostly because I watch sad movies, or read some touching novels), talked about future a lot, and supported each other always. We also made some wonderful trips together with some friends, to Okanagan Valley, and to San Francisco. Some people love to go for trips just with each other, but to me, I prefer go with a group of friends. The trip is always much more memorable with a group of friends, because my friends are so funny! hahaha....

We celebrated the one year anniversary with a red wine Shiraz (from Okanagan), and a piece of Tiramisu. The shiraz is really good. I always don't like shiraz but Jay loves it. I find that it has a dry taste. I prefer merlot or ice wine. But this shiraz is surprisingly smooth, and really smells good. We started at 9pm, and finished by 12. Actually, by 10am, I a bit gone. I am easily drunk with alcohol. There's one time at Shanghai, we whole group of friends go to a nice little restaurant/bar to have some drinks after dinner. We called some white wine and red wine. And then I happily drinking... and suddenly, I feel I needed to vomit. I told Jay I wanted to go to washroom (i a bit dizzy at then) but he didn't know waht I really meant is, I wanted him to carry me to washroom. hahaha... the washroom is just like 100 ft away, but I went blank and collapsed half way. Jay carry me back to our table, placed me on the sofa, and gun cheongly ask me, "oi oi, u ok?????" it was very very funny. hahahaa... but very strange loh, after I lie down for 5 minutes, i am back to conscious and I don't feel nausea or the need to go washroom. I sat up again and chat with friends. ahhaa.. of course, no more wine for me that night.

Anyway, back to last night, after the red wine, we had a good night sleep. Don't know why leh? It seems to relax us and gives us a good night sleep til morning.

We must plan another trip to Okanagan. This time, we have gotta buy wine in boxes!!! hahaha... it is cheaper over there and have so many selections!!!! Most of the shop, if you buy the wine, you don't have to pay for tasting. So, practically free tasting, i f not, just for small fee like 2-5 bucks per person. Last time we did that, after 3 shops, we were a bit "gone"... of course lah, each shop taste like 3-4 different wines... so the trip should last for 3-4 days if you really like wine. I think they are easily 50 winery at okanagan, or I could be wrong, it could be more! hmmm...

Happy Anniversary!!!!!:)

Miss you...

Reading this book now.

It is amazing how some books can soothe your mind... make you feel calm...

This book includes some real stories of how people deal with the loved ones who are dying, or are dead. Reading some of the stories brought me back to the time when I was losing my dad.

I am the eldest daughter to my dad. Though he never explicitly admit, I think his love to me is more than to my siblings. I was the first who is born, first who went to university, first to drive him here and there, the first to seek his tutorial in Algebra when the first few algebra homeworks I brought home, I almost cried because I don't know how to make them work, the first who laugh at his pronounciation when he teach me single bond and double bond in chemistry, and first to make him proud in many things. Though it is certainly fair to say that my brother and sister do make him proud too, but I guess the feeling is never the same when you are the first. Of course, that includes the bad things too, the first to argue with him and broke his heart many times, which I regretted big time and is willing to do anything on earth, to take those moments back.

He is also the first person I tell when I got admitted to my dreamed university, scored flying scores in university, obtained the Honors Rolls. I emailed him mostly for this kind of news, or I wrote him letters (yes, 15 years ago, writing letters is still a normal thing to do). After he was gone, my sister and I were cleaning his files, and I saw he kept those letters. I must have really made him proud. Or, he was keeping the letter and all the university receipts so he can throw this at me when I made him mad and screamed to me, "who gave you the life you having now huh?":)... I still remember he calculated and he told me I costs him 3 mercedez in my school fees! Wow... plus a Proton Iswara of course, the car he bought for me when I came back to work. Actually, I was not that into car that time. I was taking bus to go to work in KL, I don't remember I complaint about the commute to him, but he did it anyway. He loves me a lot. I didn't feel that way last time, but I certainly can see clearer now.

Right before he was sick, I remembered I called home to complaint something the china police station. Something they make so difficult to get me the residence paper. My dad was not home when I called. But he called me back to comfort me, that means a lot to me. He is always my hero. Though as he aged, I realized he is becoming more dependant on me in many things, but he was still a hero to me. Knowing I had a dad at home gives me hope in many things. And holding his hand crossing the busy streets buying newspaper, or buying fruits, makes me feel strong and yet at the same time feel protected.

His whole life was busy planning for his students, and for us too. I just hope he could have stayed a few years longer, so we can be busy planning for him and mom too. Planning for their trip (though I did once, and that memory of inviting them and having them in Shanghai is still surreal now) could bring so much joy to me when I see his contented look. My dad is such a contented person. Every small things his students did for him, he will tell us how happy he felt.

And speaking of his students, sometimes when he told me they celebrated his birthday, and bought him gifts, I will feel very jealous. I jealous because I didn't get to do these to him while his students who live daily around him can. I jealous they can bring him out for dinner while I can only give him a long distance call. I jealous they surprised him with the birthday cake while this job should have been my job. I jealous because he spent his birthday at Terengganu (he was a professor there) more than in KL, so even before I moved to Shanghai, I already didn't get to spend his BD that much on his real birth date.

Why can't my dad still be here leh?:( Next month is Father's Day again. Yes, I use the word "again" because I really don't like this day. It makes my heart ache. Several days in the year always make my heart ache, Father's Day, Whole of June, July and August, and his birthday. And I really envy my friends who still have their dad. You guys do not know how lucky you are, so lucky...

I really miss him. I used to think he is at heaven. But now I don't believe in God, so the image of Heaven also not there anymore. And I feel so frustrated don't know what to believe where he is now. :( I kept some of his ashes in a small urn and placed it in my drawer. So I will always know he is there.

Miss you daddy. A lot! And I will share this book with mom after I finished reading it. I hope it will bring her peace too. The pain of losing someone to death never goes away, we can only try to comprehend and embrace it with positive attitude. whoever says "time can wash away pain" is only trying to make you feel there is hope at the end of the tunnel. Time did not wash away pain. Or maybe there is not enough time I put in yet...

After "Something Borrowed", here comes "Something Blue"

I mentioned previously I finished reading Something Borrowed right? It was so good. I continue to buy the next book, "Something Blue". It is like the second episode after Something Borrowed.

I was reading it on Kindle... and it only lasts me 2 days, sudah finished! Something Borrowed talks about Rachel. Something Blue is totally about Darcy. I really love the story!

Selling our dining table set

This is was our dining table set.

We actually bought this set from our landlord 1 year ago when we moved in, because it was already there. The landlord said it was not used before (table lah), it was in a box, so we trusted him. I think it was new lah. Anyway, he sold the table to us at $150, 5 chairs at $200. Now I think back, is very expensive (on the chairs, the chairs was not that new, got scratches). No wonder we call him sikappang.

We are moving soon, and we have to get rid of it because our "new" home comes with an antique dining table set that the new landlord refused to move away, he says, "it is antique leh... u don't want?" When we said we really don't want because we have a set already, he implies he won't move it because it was too heavy to move... I find that ALL landlord is sikappang in this world... #$%!.

And so, We have to sell this set.

And don't know why, my ah be always got the $$ sense wrong. He don't know why go and tell the new landlord we bought this whole set for $50!!!!! He sot plug already!!!!! The new landlord quickly found a buyer for us, said he jacked up the price to $100 for us. I was like "What? $100?!!!" Then the landlord (we called him old uncle) said, "your hubby said u bought with just $50, $100 no good deal??" I nearly fainted! I told old uncle there is no way I am selling this for less than $200. He said he will bet me I can't sell it for $200. I said, let me try first. That was Friday 7pm.

So, quickly finished dinner, I quickly clean the table, and arrange it nicely and took photographs and go online to post it to sell, that was 9pm. I sell it for $250. I figured out since I bought it with $350, $250 is a fair price to get rid of it. The table and chairs are very new still. As usual, we use things with care and our used stuffs are normally in great condition.

5 min I posted it up, got a chinese woman called me want to view. I said sure. She said let's set it 11am next day, but she will call to confirm. Then there are few emails communicating about its availability. I see people very accurate one. I knew the chinese woman is not serious, so I clicked on the next email to schedule for them to come have a look, also 11am next day. They were a philippino couples who just moved to this part of the world. We  met them next day, they are very nice people. And, the deal is sealed. They transfer money to me, and arranged for pick up today.

Even last night, I still kept on receiving enquiries about this set via email. I guess I must have priced it too low :( what do you think? But we are glad we got rid of it... one less thing to worry about loh.

We feel quite sad to have our "last" meal on this table last night... I am always full of emotion, even a cheap pen like kilometrico if I used it, and I lost it, I will feel very sad. So imagine saying good bye to this table and chairs...

p/s:we actually saw this exact table over the weekend at some other store. It was on sale, and it was selling at $399, just the table alone! And even that, I think our table looks more leng chai than the one at store, don't know why? haha..

Trapped

I just finished this book, "Trapped". First time I read books they have the reviewed version, and the uncut version. By the time I finished the story on reviewed version, my head damn pening with all the violent scenes in the book, and sick psychopath thingy in the book. I definitely won't read the uncut version again loh, unless they highlighted where are the changes. so far I flipped flipped, the only changes I saw was the ending. The uncut version, got one chi xin lo still survived, where as the reviewed version, every bad persons is dead. Hahaha...

I give this book, 7 out of 10. It's toooooo violent... all the eating cannibals, and torture scenes are too much to visualized. But this is a perfect story for movie along the same lime as "I know what you did last summer", something like that. Or "Scream", those kind lah.

By the way, I bought the kindle version, is only US$3.00, vs $12 something if you bought the book. I love my kindle:)

Missing one, from the four

This morning, I was still half sleeping and half awake, and I was trying to put back some of the dried plates and cups back to the cupboard, and then suddenly, "piang", I "retired" one of my favorite plate in the kitchen. The plate splattered into hundred pieces...

落地开花!

That set of plates, is really my favorite. I bought them when I was still attending university here, I think that was in 1995 when I bought it. And then, after I graduated, I packed them nicely and bring them home with me to KL, in the luggage. And when Jay and I relocated to Shanghai, I, again, packed them nicely and brought them to shanghai, in the luggage again. And now, we are in Vancouver, I packed them and shipped them over here all the way from Shanghai. It has been with me for the past 16 years! The set has 4 big plates, 4 small plates, 4 bowls, 1 big bowl, and they are in white! They are from Cornelle. I love it because it is light, white, easy to clean, and is very user friendly. Just love it.

Now, I destroyed one of the small plate, the set is incomplete liao :( I feel bad....

Lesson learnt: Never, ever try to re-organize your plates back to the cupboard when you are still half asleep and wearing the bulky nightwear (in winter mah)! The plate was dragged to the floor because of my bulky nightwear lah. Silly me..... :(

iPhone

Sometimes, I think the advertisement in Canada is very lurn si.

Their rules allow direct comparison (with name and logo mentioned) over an advertisement/tv commercial. It's very direct, totally not subtle. Very bold.

Then just now I watch tv, Iphone has a new tv commercial, the main message is, "if you don't have an iPhone, well.... you don't have an iPhone". This tv commercial line is so bold, I am loving it!!!

I really love my iPhone =) By the time my 3 years phone contract is over, it should be iPhone 5 or possible iPhone 6 era already. Can't wait!

Books Sale

I realized the older I get, the more I resemble my mom - loving books so much.

I mentioned before my office is just next to the vancouver central library right? Well, today I walked past it and there's the books sale (where they sell the old books that the library has... sort of like getting rid of the old inventory and make room for new books). The books are reasonably priced I will say. Most are selling as $2.50. some paperpack is only $0.75. DVD/CD is $2.50 each. I paid $10.75 for 5 books. Not bad... er... but I have over spent my book expense this month. I think I have spent like $52 this month (including e-books from Amazon), and I have only budgeted $20 per month.... oh boy oh boy.... should I reset my budget for books per month? I realized my hunger is getting stronger and stronger each month. HOW???!!!

I bought 5 books.... aiyoh... if not because i can't carry it back, I would have bought more. They dont even provide plastic bags. Yiu...

I thinking of going back again... should I?:p

I bought one book that look as if it is new, it is The Age of Turbulence by Alan Greenspan (about U.S. economy)!! And that's the reason I buy it actually. Hahahaha... the other 4 books are relating to tax in Canada. I realized I am very into the tax details (and trust me, the canada tax system is the most complicated tax system I have seen so far!), I want to learn more... and there are so much to learn, we are suh a newbie to the tax system here!! And because the information is so vast, accountants is not much use in this sense, because they can't remind us and warn us on everything. Best is I know everything myself. Ganbatte!!

It is such a wonderful weather out there. I am going out for another walk~:) Bye~

Young and Naive and Stupid days

I am reading this book "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin. I am loving the story! hehehe.... I have a sick crave for story that has a sick turn (sleeping with best friend's fiancee). I know I know.. sometimes I am sick:p

So, if unknowingly you have been falling in love with your college friend whom you know for so many years, but you didn't know you got feelings to him and he got feelings in you, and you introduced him to your best friend, and they are now engaged and the big day is 3 months away, and you were drunk and you slept with him "accidentally" first time. But then you guys still keep msg each other, email each other, and he keeps on seeing you (and hook up "genuinely" this time) without your bossy best friend knowing it, will you still allow all these to happen???

I seriously don't know... It is morally incorrect but Moral seems grey in color in love, don't you think so?

When I was young (very young) and naive, I have similar encounter. No, I do not have a best friend who is getting married and whose fiancee is in love with me and whom I hooked up with during one drunk night, my story is simpler. But I have a colleague whom he claimed his love with his gf has been dying and drying and he is considering getting out of it. I had good feeling towards this guy, and although it is wrong, I secretly wish their romance will end soon because I can sense that he has good feeling towards me too. So, on the night of the Valentine's Day, he called me, and he told me they were through. I was having a mixed feeling that time, I mean it is so cruel to end a relationship on the V-day, and yet, I was happy that this means that there is nothing come between us anymore. I was thrilled at the thought, at the opportunity. But well, turns out that our "romance" was only alive for few months. I got my karma that I deserved (at least that was what I felt that time, and still think so even at today), he ditched me for another girl (but he denied there's someone else even though my spy already confirm with me there is this girl there. I wonder did he deny my existence on the last V-day to the poor ex). And instead of cruel-ly break up with me on a Valentine's Day (then it will be the exact karma, haha), he didn't have the guts to break up with me face-to-face, instead he chose to break up with me over the phone!!!! OMG, til this date, I still hate his tikus-ness. Anyway, I have overed him for many years liao lah, when I think back, I will laugh at my naiveness and stupidness, and feel sorry for the bad karma that got back to me. This kind of guy, will repeat his unfaithfulness till don't know what age.

Sometimes I scold my bui bui also. I said, "how come u don't make the "meeting me" happened earlier to save me the trouble of being heart broken by some asshole or me breaking heart of some poor soul? Can't you appear sooner so we can save all these trouble?".  Bui bui will look at me "cluelessly". hahahaha... I just love my bui bui:) He is really my soulmate:) And he is really the one. I knew that he is the ONE the seconds I agree to be his gf:))

Eh-hemm.... wanted to introduce a book to you jeh... how come I blurted my history out?! well well well... those were the days, the young and naive and stupid days... :-)

gay-butt man

What do you think of guys walking with the butt giap tight tight and shaking left to right and right to left, and wear a pants that is too tight for his meaty butt?

I think he is sooo gay............................. but he is not. And this contradiction kills me! Or maybe he is, or maybe he is bi-sexual.

I have no issue with gay, I have few great friends they are gay and we get along fine, and my best friend is a gay. But I cannot tahan this freaking gay-butt man in my company!!!!!! I want to puke when I see him walk.

Help!!!!!!!!!!

My hatred towards left turn

I managed to drive Jay to airport, and drove myself home on Friday. Very proud of myself. Maybe some of you might be curious, "you have been driving so many years in KL like a mad woman, and you afraid of driving here??"... You guys just don't understand some traffic rule here is so annoying... like left turning, you can turn on green light if no opponent car is coming. If there are cars, then u have to move forward cross the pedestrian line to wait to turn at ORANGE light. And if you not managing well, like if u happened to be day dreaming at that split second of green turning orange and orange turning red, then you are SCREWED! By screwed, I mean you will be cursed by the pedestrian crossing road because your car is in their way, and if your car is too in front, you pose threat to the traffic on left and right side. I tell you, I hate road with left turn signal. And if you want to go straight, but your fellow drivers in front want to turn and there are million of opponent cars, and he has to stop for his turn, then you KENA!! You will be trapped in the line (you want to go straight), you tried to give signal to come out of the line? Good luck to you, because if there are cars on the next lane, just by giving signal, they think you are trying to threat them and they will hon you. I HATE THE DRIVERS here!!!!!!! They are so tikus!!!!!!!!! I want to kill them sometimes. HUH!!!!!!!!!!

I told Jay before... if the destination is all the way straight and consists of right turning only, then I will drive. But I cannot drive there alone, because what ever right turn I made on the way there, on the way coming back, sure terbalik one, meaning there will be left turn. And thus, I cannot, and I won't drive. hahahha... Jay also very sayang me, sometimes I see him tired, I offered to drive, he will say, "That's alright, I can handle it... I don't want you to stress."

And I am so glad I can take skytrain to go to work and no need to drive. Asking me to drive to downtown is worse than asking me to drive in KL for traffic jam and under the massive heat. I hate the road to downtown, there are many potential left turns!!! And there are only 2 lanes, u either go on the left, posing threats to be blocked by people want to turn left, or you go on the right lane, where there are so many BIG HOLES caused by big trucks here. (And you think the hole caused by big lori only happened in Malaysia? haha)

So tell me... why this country make the left turn rule so like hell????

Good Friday

Tomorrow is an off day, Good Friday.

Quite yum gong also, work for so many months since Jan 1, only get this second holiday for a day off.

Last time work in Shanghai, kept complaining Shanghai has no holiday. Well, wait til u work at this side of the world, then only you know what does "no holiday" really mean.

I really MISS Shanghai life~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What am I gonna do this Good Friday? Watch TV alone at home loh... so bored, and bui bui will be at KL already that time. Sigh.

I miss my Shanghai Gang friends too... over here, is not easy to find friends who can click with me. Not like the gang in Shanghai, all crazy and same frequency as me... here.. so far have not found a close-matched frequency species yet. Where The Hell Are You???!!!!!!

One of my close friend here said to me, "why don't you go to church? Then you will meet more people there." What? Is it a trade? For me to have more friends, I have to fake fake go church even though I no longer believe if He is there at all or not?? You gotta be kidding me. 听了就反感。

Devils at night...

Last night at 9pm:
Bui Bui, "... Honey... do you want to share half a donut with me?"
Me, " no thank you. Stop tempting me.... I am very fat already..."

After half an hour...
Bui Bui, "you sure you don't want to gandiao that donut now? It might not taste as good tomorrow..."
Me, "no thank you!"

How do I stay away from snacking at night, with bui bui keeps tempting me?

Two nights ago, at 10pm:
Bui Bui, "I really want to drink that tomyam soup now.... with an egg, shall we?"
Me, "I not that hungry wor..."
Bui Bui, "come on, it is just soup... water.. liquid.... nothing else."
Me, ".... ok......." (my weak soul gave in.... again....)

eeeeeee.......................

I want to start my teeth brushing schedule at 9pm already, like that he won't be able to tempt me to eat again after that. I am the type of person won't brush teeth for more than 1 time at night nor will I go to bed with the unbrushed teeth (which bui bui tempted me to do many many times).

Deep

From a scene in the movie Legion, "You gave Him what he asked. I gave Him what he needed. That is the difference".

This is so... don't know how to describe... deep!

downtown event

Went downtown for dimsum over the weekend. And saw this..

It was windy, cold, and they are in "skirt"... pity them leh... and some of them are older age. aiyoh....

Bui Bui

My bui bui is going back to KL to do something. This means, I am left alone here.

It is just a week, but I feel so 不舍得. I will miss him terribly in that one week.

Since when I have become so dependant on him? I really don't like it this way... But, how to change ah? :(

Electronic toothbrush

Lately, I went for tooth-scaling. It's covered under my company's healthcare insurance. So, I am happy. It is just that the plague was quite hard on my front lower teeth (always like that) and when the dentist did the cleaning I was feeling very uncomfortable.

So, I went home, think for 2 days, and I bought this Oral B electronic toothbrush. First time I am using electronic toothbrush. And I forgot everything with "electronic" I ought to recharge it before first use. So, I excitedly prepare to brush my teeth with this toothbrush on first night, tak jadi because no electric. Yiu... I have to continue my excitement on day 2.

So, what do I feel about this after using it? I think the vibration is a bit too strong... i didn't expect this... so, it comes in a surprised to me. I go deh my bui, and he said, "u lah... figure small small but always like to use big big things... then how? if you don't want to use, I use ge lah"...  -_-"

Do you use electronic toothbrush? Do you have my same concern? It vibrates at that speed, won't it make our teeth loose?? Advice is needed!

My Bui

Sometimes I think my bui bui is not from earth... he is very "unique"...

like he cannot pronounce fish in mandarin as yu. He will pronounce as yee... so I ngeh ngeh go trained his mouth shape... but he seems to have difficulty to make the yu sound... he said it is his tooth problem. I don't think so loh. I think he never used that part of the mouth muscle for this yu sound... so weird..

then, he sometimes have certain questions that will shock u. Incident as follow:

Bui Bui, "babe, how do we know this month has 30 days or 31 days?? I always confused"
Me, " -_-", you mean you never learn this when you are young???????" (my mind memang has lots of question  marks at that time!)
Bui Buim "Oh you mean there is a way to remember this? Teach me teach me!"
Me, "-_-"... hold up your fist.. count the nuckles... the one pops up is 31 days, the one went in is 30 days. And July and August has the same repeated nuckles so they have 31 days"
Bui Bui, counting on his fist's nuckles... when he counted July, August, instead of terbalik the sequence, he went back to the first nuckle again, whcih make Sept has 31 days.."
Me, almost blown up with impatient, "AIYOH!!!!! LOOK AT ME! I ONLY DO IT ONE TIME FOR U AH!"
Bui Bui, like a kindergarten student, look at me interestingly when I teach him how to count.

Why my be is like that one??

And then here comes his next question:

Bui Bui, "How do you know the Feb has 28 days or 29 days?"
Me... memang bengam liao... "AIYOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT LAH YOU!!!!!!! DIVIDE THAT YEAR BY 4, IF CAN DIVIDE TOTALLY MEANS 29, IF CANNOT, MEANS 28 DAYS LAH!!!!!"
I memang no patient liao that time, I went to kick his ass....

Sigh.. but I still love him. Maybe kena bomoh liao -_-"

My Kindle is here!

Yup... happy:) It is recharging now.

But do you know the package (i asked it to send to my office), was left unattended outside the office door when I come back from doing banking, i was shocked. Normally office always have orang one. Just that I saw the account there says the delivery should be arriving tomorrow, so I go out do banking, leaving SGL alone in teh office, but then, how I know he go eat snake while I gone leh? So, the delivery came, no one here, and he gou dam sei leave the package outside the door unattanded.

I wrote a complaint email to amazon:

This is my first experience with Amazon.com, I am very pleased I received the order within 2 days, but I am surprised that my delivery was placed outside the door, unattended. I don't think it was signed by anyone, and I am very upset that this happened. What if my package get lost? Who is going to bear the cost of replacement? If Amazon.com is going to bear this cost, then you guys are risk losing money, or higher cost is passed on to us the consumers because of this, which is bad!

I hope if there is any future orders from me, please make sure the delivery was received with a signature instead of just left unattended outside the door. And under my tracking history, I see that there was a remark "Delivery attempted. Signature is required to complete delivery. Please see carrier notice for next delivery attempt or contact the carrier" on March 31st, 10:26am. I was in the whole morning but there was no delivery, so I don't know where is that comment coming from. And then somehow, the delivery was completed at 2.14pm, package left unattended outside the door.

Hope to have better shopping experience with Amazon.com next round. As your CEO Jeff Bezos said in an interview with Charlie Rose, customer experience is very important, and it is a total package. Thank You.

Then within half an hour, they wrote back:

Hello,

Thanks for letting us know your package arrived safely! I hope you enjoy your kindle.

A signature is typically required for packages where the total value is more than $700. A signature may still be required for a package where the total value is less than $700; it's up to the driver's discretion. We can't instruct the shipping companies how or when to leave packages at a shipping address.

A shipper may also require a signature if the package is delivered to an apartment, condominium, or business complex, or if the driver feels there isn't a safe place to leave the package at the delivery address. If you won't be home when you expect the delivery, you might want to leave a note asking the driver to leave the package with a neighbor or building manager. Otherwise, it may be easier to have the package delivered to your business address instead.Hello,

I'm also forwarding your feedback about UPS International to our shipping department, I know they'll want to hear about your experience.

We're aware that our choice of delivery services reflects on our business as a whole, and we appreciate your feedback.

We hope to see you again soon.

Like that also can??

But I am way too happy to have my kindle so I am not going to make a big fuss on this issue... This is Canada, anything can happen. Like that also can. I am also very speechless.

The delivery company is UPS. I ain't using it for important document delivery in the future, ever. I find that this UPS service is equivalent to our POS MALAYSIA service. You at the premise but then they said they delivered and u not there (their so called first attempt).

Kindle 3

I am so excited! After thinking for many months, I have decided to put through the order for a Kindle 3 last night! Still feel very ng dai just because I am in Canada, the free shipping deal does not apply (free shipping is only applicable in USA.. USA people, ni jiu hao ler...). Sometimes it makes me want to scream. Canada is lousy! And no wonder the e business here is so poor. I want to move to USA!!

Anyway, I ordered a wifi version only and without 3G. I figured out I don't travel that much anyway, wifi is good enough. I also ordered a casing that comes with portable light!

wooooo.... I am so excited!! I have waited this for so long... no more carry heavy books to read until shoulder pain. hooray~~~~ ^_^

I was debating want to buy or not last night, seeing the handling charges and import duties fees on top of the product cost makes me ngam ngam cham cham whole night, then Jay said, "Honey, just buy lah... I see you wanting this product for so many months liao. I know you are real this time. Just go ahead and click "accept the order" and wait for its delivery!"... wah... my babe is so nice... I am so touched..

So, now have to wait patiently loh... :)

And last night, I finished Stephen King's "Full Darks No Star", finally. I renewed the book again last week because of its big size and heavy weight, I cannot carry it to work and read it while I was commuting and this really upset me and created longer time to finish the book. Sometimes I read some part very suspending, but I cannot finish fast and have to wait next day when I am at home then only can read, and this is killing me! Anyway, I can return this book today liao. The stories are good!:) Love it. Bravo!! The first story 1922 is my favorite, although I like the idea of "Fair Extension" too. hahaha... Anyways.... this is the first of his book that I read. I want to read more. I like his writing.

Hmm... does that mean I won't get to utilize the public library here that much next time? ... don't know why, this idea saddened me a bit... But well, I will get used to it!! ;)

Earth Hour 2011

Was excited about Earth Hour this year, because this is the first year I am actually doing it (last few years, forgot, or was outside makan-ing). When it was at 8pm, I told bui bui I am gonna switch off the light in half an hour time so he had better finished off his work with his laptop soon.

So, at 8.30pm, I lighted up a candle, and switch off all the lights at house. Bui Bui tried to continue his work at his laptop but fail to do so because there just isn't enough light to enable him to see and type. hahaha...

8.32pm...
bui bui, "babe... how long this gonna take?"
me:"an hour"
bui:"what?? waht are we gonna do?? can we watch tv?"
me:"I am very mercy at you already to let your laptop still running. No TV"
bui"...."
me"we should face the wall, and think of all the bad things we did to earth and repent"
bui bui" hah??? no need le gua.. it ain't me who build the nuclear plant".
Me"...."

8.45pm... (after looking out the balcony, and seeing lots of people actually did not participate and lights are on as usual")
Bui bui, "how come they lights on? Babe.. let's just forget about it lah... maybe it is not today"
me"the last I checked, it is today!! March 26th er mah"
bui bui "...."
bui bui ".... ok... I think i want to pangsai... since nothing to do...."
me"...." (and he really went bangsai)

8:55pm...
bui bui," can we have a living room lights on so I can type?"
me "...."
feeling so discouraged.... i turned on the whole house lights... and  i watched tv.

Our earth hour only executed for 25minutes.But I guess if you are cautious about energy savings in your daily life, then everyday is an earth hour. Right? haha:)

Eye examination

In KL, if I finished my contact lenses and buy another 6 months supplies, I can get free eye examination. Over here, the examination is an extra charge, CAD$75 (cheapest I can find, got one bird store, the bad attitude barbie girl told me they charge $135). What a rip off.

Due to my suspicion that my power has gone up, I have no choice but to have my eye sight check. Don't want to buy 6 months supplies of contact lenses with the wrong power right?

My power has gone up by 25 each side. :( Hate it!!! And I also asked the doctor, "how about the 闪光?" (some more my cantonese so funny, i pronouced as shan-gong instead of sim-gong, the serious looking doc laughed at me some more). He said no, I don't have. I said, I used to have. Then he replied, "well.. sometimes as you aged, it goes away".... -_-"  Blardy hell u... I very old meh??!!! First time in history people say I aged!!! I damn bu-shuang!!!!!!!!!

:( Don't know should I happy for not having the sim-gong, or sad, for gettting rid of it because I "aged"... Yiu!!!!!!

Recognize me by my ring

If Vancouver has earthquake, or tsunami, on a weekday 9-6pm, what will happen?

80% of the buildings in Vancouver is not meant to withstand earthquake. I can tell u for sure. And 80% of the buildings are so near the water too (False Creek is one of them). So, if got earthquake or tsunami, we most likely cannot survive.

I tell Jay, if that happens, and if I am working at downtown that time, sure die. No need to sai hei to come find me. Just accept it. And after they digged out the broken pieces of bodies, come recognize me by my ring (if my fingers still intact). Nah, open eyes big big ah, my rings look like this ok!

Jay was very sad when he hear I say that. I said, say now better then never, right?

I also told him he has to remember me for at least 3 years. If he wants to remarry, do it on 4th year.

Actually, say also feel very sad... but well... I rather I die then he die seriously.

Best is, die together. Nobody cries.

Earth Hour

It is Earth Hour this Saturday 8.30pm.

I am so going to switch off all the lights and light up a candle at home on that day. hehehe... romantic mah.... and I have got the candles ready liao. I really love candles (that has nice smell). Love it.

I have always been cautious about not wasting electricity and energy. And I trained my babe too. Sometimes he went into the kitchen do something, came out, and still leave the kitchen light on. I will scream at him, "Anybody inside the kitchen??? Why lights on?? Who ah? Who??". So nowadays, he is very good at switching lights off already.

Then my office co-worker, the SGL,  loves to turn on every single lights inside his room, and he go for lunch, appointment and only come back several hours later. I see also heartache. Soemtiems, I don't know why, he even called me on the phone, "D, I just left my house and will be in office soon. Do you mind to go to my room to switch on my lights?"... I feel like screaming back to him "I MIND!!! YOU ARE WASTING ENERGY!!!" But of course, I have to put on a mask, say, "sure, no problem".

Why waste the energy and waste the electricity bill for something you do not consume??? I cannot understand. And these people ah, can't they see how sick is our earth already? Still want to blindly waste energy like that.

Hey dude, next time when u not in any room, please, please, switch off all the lights and tv and all that. We really need to be careful of the energy on earth... nothing stays forever, and energy does not come free. It comes at expenses and sacrifices to the nature.  Look at what the nuclear plants have done to Japan? The effect won't just stays in Japan. It is a worldwide effect!

Sunny evening

Listening to Trijntje Oosterhuis album now (bought on itune.. loving it!), under the warm sunny afternoon with my office bathing under the sun shining through the window. Time now is 5.20pm. Boss has gone to Whistler for a week with his family. But he yesterday very guai sue loh, he called around this time 5.20pm to gei gei asked me some question. I ain't stupid lah, he wants to spot check me did I stay til last minute or not er mah. Yiu...

Last time when I was also once a boss, if my staff finished thier work, I let them go home one. Coz sometimes u work overtime company also never pay u extra ge lah... so when u free, can't u go home earlier? This kind of mindset so difficult to sit in most bosses brain ge meh?

I am counting down now.... 5.22pm now... 8 more minutes... Yiu! Wish he skii and sprain ankle. muahahaha.... me very bad. But who is bad-er huh?!!! >_<

One sunny day

Yesterday, was officially the first day of Spring. Surprisingly enough, it did feel like spring yesterday. The weather was perfect, sunny, no wind, clear blue sky until can see the snow on the mountain's peak. The feeling is just so nice!

We went out to walk walk on Kitsilano area. So nice lah the feeling.... it was still a bit chilly with the occasional wind blowing, but other than that, cannot complaint much. Everything seems so nice. We had a nice thai food on Yew St and 1st W Ave, it was by a hongkie, he chatted with us and asked us when did we come to vancouver. It is nice to be chatty sometimes, and yesterday was one of those days:)

After lunch, we went to walk walk on the street, went into some specialy stores there, very very peaceful feeling lah the whole time.

And today, was raining already. Cloudy, can't see mountain. It was like yesterday was a dream, did not exist at all. haha.

Looking forward to summer. Please come faster!!!! I need you!!!

Strong Arms

Yesterday, dozed off in front of tv and when Jay tried to wake me up but to no avail, he carried me with his 2 strong arms into the bedroom.

Although I was still half asleep that time, I still remember this familiar feeling... the feeling of being carried by strong arms and know that you are safe with it, and the weightless feeling during the journey from sofa to bedroom is very "nice"... if you know waht I mean.

When we (me, my little brother, and my little sister) were small kids, during one period of 'crazy time', we always exhausted all our energy during the day time, and thus sometimes before the bed time, we were all dozed off on the sofa. And, trying to wake up 3 impatient kids who were sleeping is a crazy idea, ask my mom and she will tell you "No No No". So, our dad will carry us one by one upstairs to our bed. Remind you, there are 3 of us.

Dad has to make 3 rounds. He always picked up my sister first. smallest gua... then my brother... then me... 3 of us sleep in 1 bedroom that time.  When we were all being carried upstairs and placed softly on our bed, we will open our eyes and have a small giggle, coz we were awake already actually before dad carries us. But we just like the feeling of being carried so we continue to pretend to be asleep, 3 of us!!! We were very gan.

The feeling of being carried by our dad is very safe, very protected, and very "nice". His arms were strong... and he has no complaint at all, carry all 3 of us making 3 trips up and down the stairs. My bui bui, he will comlpain one, "wah.. since when you so heavy liao!" Slap him.

I miss those days... I miss my dad. Who says time can minimize pain? Sometimes when I was taking the skytrain and have nothing to do, and when my mind wanders off to "dangerous zone" - missing my dad, I still cannot help but cried. I wonder did I have a depression??? I don't know why I can't let go of him, even though I perfectly understand 生老病死 is an unbreakable cycle for all of us. I guess I still could not understand the cause and cannot digest the process. And also absorbing full regretness of not arriving one day earlier to be able to talk to him one last time. And I am also taking full regret on continueing my stupid lousy not-worth job at Shanghai that time, instead of quitting the job and go back to KL to be beside him, I guess I believed totally what the doctor said, that if he is on chemo, his lifespan can last 1 more year. I thought I can decide whether to quit job or not by the time he started his chemo, to see how was his condition. BUT no, he didn't even get to that part. I guess this is what I cannot let go. I thought and I thought and I thought, I was so stupid. I thought I have the whole situation under my control. I am such a stupid girl!

When do people go after they die??? Sometimes I really miss him, I hope I can go to those people and ask him/her to connect us to talk. Do you think those people can do this job??? I really have lots of crazy thoughts...

Then I read the news, a 70-year-old woman was found alive, after 4 days of the earthquake/tsunami. I will think, why some people so difficult to die, and some people so easy to die? Who chooses who to get grabbed by the waves and went missing, and who decides who can stay on the floating roof for 4 days and get rescued?? I am sooo frustrated.

Then I also thought, the beggers I always saw sitting at the same spot, asking money, they have meaningless life. Why they not die??? But my dad, who was still contributing greatly to the society and to the country even at his retirement age, why is he get strucked by this fatal illness?? And the ironic thing is, he was not killed by the fatal illness, he was killed by the pneumonia he developed after the surgery, and then slowly, most of his internal organ went malfunction, liver, stomach, and I don't know what else because he wasn't able to talk because they put tubes through his nose, throat for him to breath. Thanks to the brilliant doctoer we have in Malaysia, they did not tell us after they did this, he won't be concious, he is as good as dead. Brilliant doctor, you guys are so brilliant. Hope you all have a great life in front of you.

Life is so unfair.

In such a moody condition right now, I think I had better stop writing and go out get some fresh air.

Updates

Got back the resized ring, ta-dah~~~ It took them 4 weeks to resize it... sigh.

Wanted to demo on my finger.. but then I don't want to show my fingers... hahaha... so, imagine yourself on your finger le hah, it is a flower shape:) I like it very much. I deh my bui bui to buy for me for this year valentine's gift... but only get to wear it now. Thanks to the super efficient service with the ring store.

Loan is approved too. Very excited... made some deposits already... the final deposit is due in 6 months' time. Hope they have a reminder send to us, if not, what if we forgot to pay?

Has been raining for the past 7 days... umbrella was never dried out completely... I think my umbrella won't last long in such condition (rain, wet, strong wind, snow). Too bad... i really like my umbrella, i bought it from zara in san francisco. Nothing fancy, it is just the right size, right weight, right color, and right price. 4 "right" in a row, I don't think I can find back such umbrella easily. zou ji I buy 4 or 5 same one lah.... now I very fear that if this one worn out, and I can't find another one I like, how leh?

old memories stored in blogs

I was bored last night, so I browsed through some of my old blogs in 2006, that was the first year I been in Shanghai. So many funny incidents were recorded. I couldn't stop laughing reading some of my old entries. Some of my thinking at that time was quite childish. Well, a growing up process for everyone right? hahaha... it brought back lots of fond memories reading the old blogs. I am so glad I didn't give up writing blogs. But I realized each year, the number of entries decreases, I become lazy. Bad!

I hope we all keep up the good habit of recording bits and pieces in our live. It would be a great asset to us when we grow old in the future. Don't you think so?:)

SGL

The SGL in my office is really testing my patience.....

Ming ming he has urgent stuff to do today, but still go "eat snake" for whole morning. Finally when come back to office at 2.30pm, kept pressing me to do stuff for him urgently... "sorry to interrupt, this is urgent, can u please help  me print this document out and re-layout for me (he is really sucks in excel, words...) to make it look nicer"

I want to scream!!!!!!!

Grocery shopping vs. Apartment buying

I am We are so excited!!! We just placed a deposit to purchase an apartment!!

We didn't intend to do so. Yesterday, after lunch, we just planned to go for grocery shopping. But Jay said why not go "apartment looking" again (lately, "apartment looking" has been one of our hobby for the weekend, we will go to open houses to see the old apartment, and also new developers to see the showroom). We didnt' held up high hopes to get anything, but well, it is a hobby, so why not. So far we have seen many apartments, either the location is great, but prices is way beyond our budget. Or within budget, but the apartment is a crappy one. Or within budget, but the developer offers yucky appliances quality. It was very depressing everytime we go "apartment looking", because by then we realized how poor we are. The money we have in KL and Shanghai worth like peanuts over here after the conversion rate. Sigh.

Anyway, so we went to see these apartment, new developing. Phase 3. I like developers that is not building phase 1, because by going through Phase 1, all the possible mistakes you would have made, would be made and you would have learnt from your mistake and do a better job in next phases.

Out of 10 scores, this is how this property scores (in my view lah):
Location: 7.5
Price: 8.5
Appliances quality: 9
Sales person's service and attitude: 9.5
Techi-ness of the house: 9
neighborhood: 8.5
size: 5 (1 bedroom with a den)

So, of course we like it so much! We went back home to grab the cheque to pay as deposit right away.

Then, when we finally made it to buy grocery, we were so excited and  yet tired... Hubby said, "what happened just now? Didn't we just wanted to buy some vege and fruits only?? Look at what we have done!" hahahhaa....

I hope we made a good choice. It is estimated to be completed in Summer 2012. One year to go... The apartment is only 1 bedroom (that's all we can afford now). Baby is not in picture... or like hubby said, "if it comes, it will have to share room with us for first 1-2 years. Don't care liao." hahahaha....

Hope the loan part is no issue lah:) Will update soon. Very excited and nervous.

sei guai loh

My office has a sei guai loh (SGL).

SGL "Hi D, I am going to pick up my dog, and come back within 2 hours."
D is me lah...
D "OK"... (as if I care?? as if I am your boss??? Go tell boss lah!)

SGL "Hi D. It's me. I am now at dentist, I will be back before 3pm"
D "OK"... (@#$%!)

SGL "Hi D. Can you do me a favor? Go over to my place, log in my computer, and look under folder A, get the picture xyz, and send to Mr.J. I am showing my house to a potential buyer, will be back late."
D "sure"...(@#$%!!!!!!! TIU U!!!!!!!!!)

SGL "Hi D, can you help me call up this lady, her number is on an email I just sent u before I go out bring my sons see doctor. Ask her if we pay today, will we get a copy of the award?"
His sons.. both are in high school.. what kind of sickness need the parent to bring BOTH see doctor together?
D "OK"

SGL "Hi D, sorry to bother you. When the cheque is ready, can you help me bring it over to the law firm, which is just 3-4 blocks away?"
D, "I will call courier service"
SGL "No... er... what about Jon, is he in office? Can he walk there for me?"
D "Jon not in office. I am not sure"
SGL ".... ok... I will bring it over tomorrow morning"
D "OK" (of course you bring lah!! takkan I bring for u??? Are you blind? outside so cold and raining and got strong wind warning, and I am not very well. I just changed my contact lense brand today! I feel so uneasy!!! I want to slap u, can ah???? I WON"T DO ANYTHING FOR U!!!!"

This SGL really gets on my nerve. And yet, for goodwill reason, I have to put up a nice smile and face him. So pek chek!!!!

SGL, u so lazy!!!!!!! always use office hour do own stuff!!!!!! I hope our boss finds out soon and fire u! Blardy hell u!

RBC

I complaint about RBC before right? Well, that was branch A.

Near my office, there are two RBC branches, the one nearest is branch A, and it gives me the shits to the very core. I was skeptical to try branch B, which is nearby too. Branch B seems smaller in size, and since I don't have many choices (as if I can choose which bank my boss bank with??), I have decided to take a risk, try banking with branch B. I can take no more from branch A, they gave me chances of heart-attack. And hooooray.... I have discovered that, the way banks shit you, depends on who is serving you, be it with a brainless teller, or a teller with brain and with good manner.

This teller at branch B, he only sees me once before today, and today is the second time I bank with branch B, and coincidently, he is serving me again.

He, "well well well.. is he overpaying it again?"
Me, thinking.. "aiyah, on the statement it says it is $xyz amount already, and the cheque is $xyz, where got overpay wor.. u cannot read ah?"... but of course that was only playing in my mind. I put up a nice smile, reply, "no, he is not this time. He is just paying the exact amount on the statement."
He, "OK."
Me, thinking... "you sure ask me for my ID ge lah... OK, I give you!" So, I took my driving license out and pass to him (over here, driving license is an important ID, is like our IC in Malaysia).
He, "that's ok. I remember you. I don't need your ID."
Me, so flattered!!!!!! I bank with HSBC at least once in a week every week, that idiot also never remember me and always asked me the same question every time "are you the signee of the account?", and this guy only served me twice over the past 4 weeks and he can remember me??? Wah..... I see sunlights in rainy day!!! I see rainbow at night!!! I see bikini in winter!!! (ok... too much liao)

I finally realized, there are "people" in this city, instead of robots behind the counter! Hoooray!!!!

Mr. Branch-B-Teller, you've made my day. Thank you!!

林俊杰《会有那么一天》

Lately have been bong chan itu itune buy some songs. One of the old songs I bought is 林俊杰《会有那么一天》. The lyrics is so beautifully sang... and without fail, everytime I listen to this song, my eyes will wet with tears at the end.

I always think, if my dad was come to concious before he passed away 2.5 years ago, he would have said the same thing to my mom. Writing til here, my eyes are filled with tears again...

I wish the lyrics here, that says "I have to go now, don't cry and don't be sad. We will meet one day, and we will hand in hand walk on the grass field listening to birds singing. I love you." won't get sang by one lover to another lover in this world again because it is so sad... and yet the promised future that they will meet again is so soothing and calming.

LOVE

Happy Valentine's Day!

I sent an ecard to Jay this morning. He said he read already feel like crying... aiyoh... i only say, "I love you til the day my eyes are closed for good".

Anyway, for me, everyday is a Valentine's Day if you cherish every moment you spent with your love ones, be it family members, lovers, friends:)

We have no plan to eat out today. Jay said he will make me 水蛋 to eat tonight, my favorite!!!! hehehe...:) We also went out to shop for a ring for my index finger because I suddenly "ada angin" so very wanted a special index ring (eh-hem... not diamond lah... i want something i can wear daily and look special and yet not too fancy and not too dull), but then at the end, found the ring, but need to send it to resize (my fingers very small, sigh) and guai lou as usual, do things so slow, have to take 3 weeks!... sometimes really feel like slapping them. OK, 3 weeks then!

I baked a sponge cake yesterday. 1st time. Too sweet, and I miss the final step, of terbalik the pan after u remove it from oven. I dont know why this step is important, but apparently it has some effect because I don't follow this step, my spongecake at first took out from oven looks very high, after cool down is very short... so... hmmm.... i want to try again! Next time i will add one more egg, and cut the sugar by 1/3. ;)

TGIF

This week, I wasn't very in good mood. I don't know why lah, maybe got one day I didn't bangsai in the morning, or my period is coming but not here yet, and I am addicted to eating M&M at night, which makes me feel very sick in the morning, scolding myself "WTF u doing?? Quit that M&M! It is making you fat!"

Anyway, my main reason I don't feel good in this past week is, I dealt with too many stupid guai lou here. Yes, they are more stupid than any other race on earth.  Last time I always think the local chinese are very 奇怪, they are stubborn, and they do things irrational, well, say that again here. Things that people do here are even more weird, more stubborn, and more backward.

First of all, my company has a $15,000 monthly take home salary guai lou, he always do nothing but goyang kaki at office. He come office late and go home early and always call and report his "fake" whereabout to me which I find it very annoying. You go tell the boss directly la, u tell me for what. Expect me to cover your ass when boss asked about you?

This morning, this si guai lou, I entered office with bag still on hand, jacket still on me, he signalled me to go to his room (and yes, today he was early). Then I thought si mi dai ji, her asked, "I am helping my son to print out his assignment, but it is in apple format. The printer in office says can't recognize the format and won't print, can you fix this?" I was like "..................." Aiyoh, you also know is different format lah, download the converter lah.. And by right you should not always use office printer for your personal stuff. Always print color photos, color documents, and now printing son's assignment? aiyoh!!!!!!! Damn sian. Earn so much, go buy your own personal printer lah so cheap, I earn so little also have a printer at home! Get a life!!!!

Damn gek hei.

Then, yesterday, I went do banking. I asked the teller, what's the procedure if one of our company wants to close the bank account? Does the signee need to come to the branch? Great, the robotic responce immediately got turned on, some more eyes not look at me, "For any business account related question, please direct it to your bank business account manager." It is his attitude and the way he answered so robotically that annoyed me to the max. HSBC, you failed me again! Don't you have a class to train your staff to look at the client's eyes directly when the client asked a questions and expects an answer from a human instead of from a robot? Really kanasai!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HMMMPH!!!!

I am so sick at them!!!!!!! Help me~~~~~~~~~~ I sometimes really have the urge to leave this place. Why on earth I want to come here for:( People here are so not smart, so want to wan bun, and soooo irritating. I rather deal with spitting chinese people and walk on a crowded street in China that it is impossible to not touch anybody or being touched (i hated these 2 things most when i was in china).

H-E-L-P !

Sei Guai Lou!!!!!!!! Stupid ass!!!

Nothing is impossible

The more I deal with banking in this country, the more I have a funny feeling. The bank here is so "flexible"... Do you know that if someone wrote you a cheque here, say your name is Jessica Liu, and your sister name is Jenny Liu, and your enemy name is Joanne Liu, if the cheque is payable to "J. Liu", all of you can cash the cheque. Soooo freaking flexible!  And even sometimes there's spelling mistake on the payee name, the cheque can still be cleared, without any question.

However, sometimes things are very none sense. They will get freaked out over something that we malaysian or china bank won't even ticked a bit. For instance, if you try to bank in a cheque for another person, say you are Jason, and I Elizebeth try to bank in a cheque for you at your bank. The cheque is your name. The freaking bank will kiah-si and asked you provide your ID for them to key into the system, for security reason. WTF? I cannot understand this. And if you try to bank in a cheque for soemone else using ATM, you think also don't need to think. IT IS NOT DO-ABLE! Period.

And then, sometimes different bank will tell you different rules. Like here, Coast Capital Savings Bank will say, all wiring funds need the actual person to sign on the paper at the branch. While HSBC Bank will just fax over a form, and you can sign it, and email it back. No need to go to branch. Simple. So, different bank, different standard.

One more incident, this Royal Bank of Canada, very sibeh chuen. Got one time, my boss because tam the rebate feature that the credit card has, so, he wanted to make a big donation via his credit card, to earn points mah. The problem is, his card credit limit, let's say is 30,000. However, he has used up 10,000 limit as of that particular day, and the donation is 30,000. Meaning he will go over his limit loh. So, instead of go over limit, what he did is he wrote a cheque of 20,000, asked me go bank it in for him, and only after the cheque went through, we only do the donation transaction. I went to the bank, got ready my ID because they sure ask my ID because the account is not mine (see? give them money also like sibeh difficult), and they look see look see, wasted my 20 minutes, check with their boss, and came back to me, "sorry, we cannot accept this cheque at the moment." I haven't even ask a single question, she continues, "I cannot tell you the reason.". I was damn angry that time. And I swear, even if I have few millions next time, I won't deposit a single cent into RBC! Anyway, to make the story more funny, I went back to office, boss told me they called him and told him why, it is because he only used up 10,000 limit that time, and it was before the credit card statement due date, that's why he cannot bank in a 20,000 cheque more than what he has spent (which is 10,000) to clear the balance. THE BANK HERE IS SO SI-KAP-PANG! (si-kap-pang, is a teow cheow phrase that my hubby taught me to use, means "square", in this context, means stubborn, no brain)

I think I can be a bank guru and write a book about banking services in Canada. Muahahahaha....

OK, ngam ngam chum chum whole post... forgot the objective me want to blog today. 恭喜发财!!!兔年行大运!!!身体健康!!!青春常驻!!!:))

Health

I remember last time when I was in my 20-s, I totally have no pressure going to the routine body check up (that time, only do body check up when change job, as required by new company, instead of now, do religiously yearly).

Now if I go for check up, I need to have preparation. I will cheat myself, let's say next week body check up, this week i will drink lots of water... no eat heaty food.. no eat fried stuff.... hoping this will yield a good result, of course deep down my heart i know this last minute good girl thing won't help at all.

We went for body check up here last week. Over here, if signed by your family doctor, the check up is free of charge, absorb by government. (we every month pay medical service fees to government gah...). The medical center for body check up was so full of people!!!!!! and only 3 counters are opened. We waited 2 hours to get it down. Simple check up only, no x-ray, no eye-check. Just take blood and urine. That's it.

Today, received a call from nurse, asking for Jay (no ask me). It got me so anxious. Asked the nurse what's wrong, she won't say. She says only the doctor can comment. At first we made appointment to see doc this Saturday. Today is Thursday. I know me... if wait til Saturday, i can't sleep, can't eat between now til Saturday. I will be anxious. So I think Jay knows me well, he said why don't he go today after lunch. I said yah, u go ahead. That was at 11.45am.

from 11.45 - 2pm, I was really restless... I kept thinking what's wrong with Jay's report. What if something happened to him?? What am I supposed to do?? All the negative thoughts just swamp in. The last I had experience this kind of feeling, was 2+ years ago, when mom told me dad has to go hospital to check up something. It was mentally torture for me. I don't want to go through this again.

Turns out that, his cholesterol is higher than the normal range of 5. His is at 6. So have to watch out diet. Jay goes to gym routinely twice a week one... dunno why like that also can have high cholesterol. We didn't eat unhealthily also... I even controlled him only one trip to KFC for every quarter (3 months). But he alwasy break the rules by going there once a month. So, now I have to strictly enforce the rule, one KFC for every 12 months only!!!!! That's it. F*** u KFC.

Any recommendation on how to bring down the cholesterol effectively? Would really like to know...

Uncommon occupation for women

I think my whole life is very "library" oriented. Why I said so? Uni time, my house live right in front of a library, but I seldom go there. This is what chinese called 身在福中不知福. Right now, my house is also very near library. And then, my office is just right at the intersection of a cross road, where the vancouver central library is located! it is like the HQ of all the libraries. Ngo men nei sei mei!

Anyway, compared to last time when I still uni schooling, I cherish the library more nowadays. I guess because I am now more poor than uni time, so, better rent books to read as oppose to buy new one, although I really love the new book smell, and I have this weird habit of liking new stuff.... new cover... unfolded books.... I am weird I know. Even if I go supermarket buy juice or milk or anything, I always take the 3rd one on display, instead of the first one. I very silai too. hahaha...

Recently I am reading this book, the name very long, but anyway, it is about this girl who become a cab driver in New York. It is a very interesting book. It talks about the behavior of some passengers, and even traffic control officer. And she also gave an insights how to apply and go through the test to become a cab driver in New York. haha... It is not easy on her, because this job, in New York, is seldom applied by white people, and some more she is white, female.

Then it got me thinking... I once have a dream to become a plumber too. But my hubby and my good friend laughed at me, "You??? Please lah..... uh P-L-E-A-S-E!!! You say only.... you can't do it one!"... what's wrong with being a plumber wor....btw, the reason why I want to become a plumber is, I think the most annoying thing at home, to me, is whenever water is leaking, or something wrong to do with water. I don't like to rely on people one. So, if I am a plumber and I can do the job, how fantastic it will be, right??

My hubby said, "you no energy one.. how can you fasten a knob or tube? and you so afraid of dirty thing, how can you stand fixing the toilet bowl? Yo will faint!".... wah.... i never thought of that wor.... i only thought of fixing water temperature kind of thing, and changing pipe... i never thought of have to touch or see the si-si niu-niu leh...

Can I be a plumber with an exclusion clause - no deal with toilet bowl, and no deal with dirty stuff? hahahahhaa.... sigh.....

Maybe my hubby and my good friend is right..... I cannot one.... :(

credit card

Today chi xin already, posted 2 entries. haha...

As I am on the phone calling a credit card company in Malaysia to use my points to offset the blardy the $50 government fees (how can such policy be passed at the first place??? this is money sucker), my heart has a funny feelings... Just last week I was transferring money to pay my China credit card (the card is occassionally used for some other purpose, even though we not in China). And then 2 days ago, I was settling my canadian credit card bill online. It got me thinking, is it true that when you live at certain country for certain time, even though you not living there anymore, it feels so hard to disconnect yourself from the stuff you have had there, especially credit card. I keep having the thoughts that " keep it first... who knows wor... later I might have to move back to KL or China... if that time only come to apply credit card, how inconvenient?". So, there you go, I have credit cards in three countries now.

I wonder how long will I keep them for. Until when in my life will I have a certain answer "YES, I am staying here and ain't going anywhere else. I can LOUD LOUD say I want to cancel credit card country A, and credit card country B!"

But before I can LOUD LOUD say it out, I had better have a clear sense of each credit card's due date. Sigh... and thanks to the government fees, now I have one more thing to remember. This government fees is really getting on my nerves... I still don't understand what kind of service we receive from government on credit card that deserves this $50 pay out to government. Anybody knows this answer?? 很郁闷!

25-ish

In our office, we have a staff, he is 25 years old.

He is very good at talking, very socialable, in almost every restaurant he stepped into, he will sure know a person or two there. This I salute to him very much. In some sense, he is amiable. 人见人爱.

However, he do things, can make you puke blood. It is like, he do things is very chin chai, and don't care whether it gets done or not. And as a result, he either does things either too slowly and delay the schedule, or he does things incorrectly and at the end, we spent more time undo the wrong. Hmm....

What to do leh? He is one of the boss's son. So you know lah... sometimes even though I know the mistake was done by him, I have to hide my own heart and tell the boss, it was  the vendor's mistake, they didn't follow instruction that's why is wrong. bla bla bla.. sometimes I also feel I am good damn big liar, because of him!

So, it made me think, what was I when I was 25 years old??

When I was 25 years old, according to my resume, (haha), I was at my 3rd job already. It was a research analyst job. I think I am the type of responsible person from day 1, regardless whether I am 20 or 30 or later on 50. I don't simply do work... I don't delay the schedule... I do follow up so the project won't get delayed... everything I do, I do whole heartedly. I think I didn't give anybody shit at that time... I hoped so.. haha...

Then I have another 25-ish year old person, who thinks that it is 肤浅 for parents to ask for pocket money from their children. I was shocked. Too shocked to comment for few days. And this word  肤浅, is actually from his gf's mouth. Meaning, they both agree it is 肤浅 to give pocket money to their parents. Sigh... I cannot understand the logic. As I understood, most parents don't even 稀罕 the children's pocket month, they accept it because it is a token of appreciation from their children, for all the hard work the parents put in to the shape the children of where they are today. And the pocket money don't even need to be huge. Just give whatever you can. The figure $$ means nothing, it is the action that shows your appreciation. So how can it be 肤浅?? I really cannot comprehend. And I nearly choked when I saw this comment. Seriosuly, nearly choked. I guess I am a very traditional person, I beleive in respecting elderly people, especially our own parents. They most probably do not even need our pocket money, but to let them hear we think they are 肤浅 to accept pocket money from their children, I think will seriously hurt their fragile heart. These 25-ish people should understand that as parents grow old, their heart grows fragile too. Any mean word will paralized them for sometime, and whatever is done, is difficult to undo. Anyway, I think back to when I was 25-ish, I feel so proud to give pocket money to my parents every month. I never missed. And to see their contented look on the face, makes me proud too. So again, why is my 25-ish so different from the 25-ish people nowadays?? I really do not understand. Some more, the particular 25-ish person, when he was completing his phD (it takes 10 years to complete the whole process instead of just do a Bachelor degree), his dad, frequently send him money in USD. His dad sent so much until this 25-ish person has a $40K surplus at his bank account before he graduate. This kind of unconditional love, why can't he remember when he blurted out the word 肤浅??

I hope my readers are with me. It is nothing to feel shallow to give your parents pocket money, or to receive pocket money from your children. There, I said it! :)

p/s: after posted this post, only realized i made a mistake. The person I think he was 25-ish, is actually 30 years old this year. Wholly... 30 years old already still so childish in thinking???!!! lagi puke blood!

Car

In KL, We need to have a car, because our public transportation (if there is any??) sucks big time. I don't want to go into details.... but we all Malaysian, so we should understand what I am saying here. In KL, no car means no leg. No car means you won't be able to get a gf also. One household, how many people working (n), then the number of car is n+1. Why plus 1? Mama also needs a car to go pasar leh, right? If not we all go work, how mama get around??

So, I moved to Shanghai for 4 years+. No car. Reasons why we never think of buying car are: we don't have an F1 driver skill, so better not have car in Shanghai (all taxi drivers in Shanghai deserves a title of F1 driver); and also their subway (we called "ditie") is so so so so so advanced. Linking one place to another. When we reached Shanghai in 2006, we only have 3 lines I think... by the time we left Shanghai last year, it was I think more than 10 lines. Wholly Cow!!!! Go where also can I tell you. The only time I told Jay I wished we had a car in Shanghai was when it was pouring with rain after office hour and getting a cab is as difficult as winning lottery. Even hou choi let you sported one cab, you won't be able to win it over from the locals. The local ladies, if they want a cab, they can run even with high heel shoes. I always wonder where these cab drivers go whenever it rains... how can it  be so little cab on the road when it is raining leh??? 不解.

Anyway, now I am in Vancouver. With a car. But today I damn bored, i go and layout the scenario what if we don't have a car. I think we still ok wor.. first of all, we stay near a big mall, so, post office, grocery, cinema, banks, bookstore, food court, restaurants all no problem to get within walking distance. I also take skytrain go to work, not driving even though I have free carpark. The only time I think we need a car is when we go out play, like summer time go hiking, go short vacation, go Seattle. I think we can do ok by renting cars if we need to do that?

How leh.... shall we sell our car?? Help~~~

September month 2010

I didn't blog much in September, because I have so much things going on at the same time.

First, I am all pumped up to go yoga at least 3-4 times a week. It started out fine. Then one day, on the way walking home passing through the stores in the mall, I saw a tea store, hiring a sales for 1 month. Why 1 month? because they are moving the store out of the mall to another location at the end of September. I like to drink tea very much, learnt from Jay. Jay likes to drink long jing, tie guan yin, jasmine tea, pu erh a lot in China. I actually can differentiate the types of tea by just smelling the tea nowadays. So, I came home from yoga class, took a shower, sat down and printed out my resume, and I grabbed Jay to go with me to the mall to apply the job. Inside the mall, I made Jay to go into the store to have a look, see if it is a "good" store, what kind of stuff they sell, etc. Jay came back and told me, "they sell ok stuff, not bad. Go do it babe.". So I went. The store manager is a Korean guy. He interviewed me at a cafe shop nearby, some more belanja me an orange juice tim, hehe... anyway, the point is, I got the job! I was so happy. The store is not a bad store, it sells 210 types of tea, from black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea, Roibos tea, to herbal tea, and fruit tea. And as a worker there, if the shop is not busy, we will brew tea and drink. I have tasted so many kinds of tea in the store in the past few weeks, and I have to say, I still like green tea and fruit tea the best. I really don't like black tea and roibos. And I have learnt lots of tea knowledge in the past few weeks, thanks to my 2 canadian colleagues, and my korean boss. They are so brilliant in tea knowledge. One guy, his name is Jer, (he looks like a Santa Clause to me, seriously), he can talk and talk and talk about tea for long time. He can be a good lecturer.

The tea shop closed up already few days ago. It's kind of sad. It made me also realized that retail job is very tiring, and the time is very inflexible. I am so glad this is just a one month assignment. They are moving to another place, my boss wanted me to move too, but I told him is too far. Actually, it is not far by subway, but I just don't feel like doing this anymore. And, opportunity arise, my friend's friend know a friend's company hiring in downtown, I went to apply, and I got the job! Monday is my first day of work:) It's a property development company. I will be doing something different from my professional, but it is a start. Who ask me want to migrate to a city where jobs are so scarce leh? See what do what first loh~~~ I always believe in fate. So, let's see how it goes.

Speaking of the tea shop sales, because of the sales and extra discount for staff, I ended up spent more than 10% of my pay to buy the tea pot, cups, and tea from the store! aiyoyo... memang rugi lah~~~  sob!

Update soon, and, wish me luck on my new job!!:)

p/s: at the end, i only did 9 yoga classes for the whole mth of Sept. Yeeeeee..... mission failed again! I planned to do at least 10 times!

Labor Day

Today is Labor Day of Canada, and U.S.

So different from Asia's labor day date.

dim gai leh?

It's a "No Tax Day" in Superstore. I bought the iPhone car charger. Now, if we are on the road, we no longer fear that my iphone is out of battery (especially when we are depending on it's GPS service). Yay. Saved 3 bucks oh. hohoho... If hari hari is No Tax Day, isn't that fantastic?

Also bought a bag of candle, it says "each can last about 8 hours"... I will try tonight. I discovered by accident that a brand I bought from carrefour in Shanghai can last about 5 hours, that's the longest I have seen in market. 8 hours? I first time hear only... duk ng duk gah?

Every where is on sale for Labor Day. I think after tomorrow, the kids will be back to school. Yay... everything will be back to normal, no more stupid college kids lingering in mall at day time (they look very 颓废). I also bought another pair of sun-glasses from GAP yesterday at downtown. I get 20% off if I signed up for their membership wor, so why not? Plus, they have this cool service, if the item you bought is having another sale within 15 days of your purchase, you will automatically get the difference credited back to your account. This kind of service, I 1st time hear. So considerate. I like it.

Love Hate Relationship

I am bored. I am going to apply for the volunteer job from canadian red cross. They asked me to do criminal record check because the volunteer job will include contacting the children who are in disadvantage or vulnerable.

I discussed with my fren Hosea. He said criminal record check need $$$ one... and not cheap. I said, "wah.... I free labor also kena pay meh?? I dun believe. And if they want me pay, i no do volunteer liao."

Hosea asked me call the RCMP directly... i very very very very scared... immediately in my mind I picture those mata we have back home... the impatient face, the "bagi kopi duit" face, the "don't ka-ka cau-cau" face. I very hesitate to call. But, I don't want to go all the way there to find out one simple answer "if i do volunteer job and they want me provide criminal record check, do i have to pay or not?"

I called... the automated machine put me on hold for a while, which made me more nervous -- "means they are busy leh... and they will answer this phone and realize it is a small matter like this and waste thier time, will they get mad??? oh dear... should I hang up?"

Just when I was tempted to hang up, a lady officer answered the phone. I told her my question, she answered very professionally (not rushing me to hang up) and explain very detail. Apparently if I am doing this for non-profit organization and if they gave me a letter, I won't have to pay. And she even advised me what to bring to do that. Wow... I am so motivated after the phone call. I love Canada! hehehe...

Even with this criminal record check done, it does not guarantee me a volunteer job. You see... this country is so lurn si... no job, even if it is a volunteer job, you need to be on wait list loh.

Love Hate Canada.

Save some trees, would you?

I signed up for a month unlimited passes to Yoga. It is a community recreational center, very very very near my house... so, why not?:p

Anyway, there's an incident happened today and yesterday (at bank), that makes me 感慨万分.

Yesterday, at bank, we are opening a new account, something like FD in Malaysia. So, the financial planner asked me, "do you want us to mail you the monthly statement? Or do you like to go paperless and view it online?". I have had terrible experience with HSBC on e-statement, I damn scared. I told her I want the monthly statement mailed and also i want to be able to view online. She a bit boh song wor... she said, "ok.. just thought will give you an option to save some trees... hehehe." I totally don't think it is funny loh. I want to tell her my bad experience with HSBC... but I refrained. I want both options still, i told her.

Today, at that recreational center, I changed something on my pass. So the guy at reception helped me changed in the system, and then asked me if I want to print out the statement (after he made the changes). I said, "yes, why not?" Then he pushed his computer screen to me and show me the changes were done, implicating there's no need to print it out lah. He said, "so.. do you still need the print out?". I felt pressured. I said, "fine, no need then." Then he like very happy, and he said, "great, we saved a tree!"

I have no problem in saving trees. But the "saving trees" and "HSBC bad experience" kept haunting me. They are like twins, whenever people said "save a tree", I will think of the bad HSBC. eeeeeeeeee....

I need to do more yoga to calm myself. huhuhuhuhu~~~
