An entry from Shanghai Daily Press

This is very interesting... I am more curious why that woman woke up at 2am and walked in her yard, in a winter time, than her story of being hit by a frozen sock.

A WOMAN, surnamed Lin, was hit by a frozen sock when she went for a walk in her yard, Shanghai Evening Post reported today.

Lin searched her yard and all she found was a frozen rolled up sock.

“My stomach hurt after eating dinner, and I was unable to sleep, so I got up at 2am to take a walk. Suddenly something hard hit my head and I felt immediate pain. I searched for what had hit me, and all I could find was a sock.” Lin said.

“No one throws things into my yard, let alone throwing a sock at 2am. Maybe the sock was wrapped into clothes when it was washed, and as it hung to dry it became frozen and then fell,” she said.

Lin put the sock along with a note on her gate this morning, in an attempt to find its original owner.

Yeah!!!!! :p

YEAH!!! Salary is out today, I just checked. It is out and safe in my bank account that I opened with sweat and swear 2 days ago. Hohoho...

So used to get salary on every month's 15th back in Malaysia, so, it was a bit sun-fu to wait for salary over here, which is out in every month's end of the month. Like very long time have not tasted the feeling of receiving salary. hehehe... Although my hubby has been supporting me financially lately, I did not feel good. Maybe I am too used to spending my own money. Yes, I like to spend my own money, but at the same time I like to keep the pocket money that my hubby gives me every month. hahaha... different thing mah, pocket money is to keep one. Salary is to spend one. Hahahaha... MUAHAHAHAHA...

While I was writing this entry, I overheard my colleague complaining last night she went to Carrefour, on the way back she got a cab, just when she was opening the taxi door to get in, she was being pushed away by a 20+ year old girl, the girl rudely said the cab was stopped by her, not by my colleague... My colleague was stunned. Oh by the way, my colleague is not shanghainese too, she is from hong kong.

Another bad incident in China... or ... another cultural shock? When is this gonna end?? Sigh......

Actually, would any shanghainese feel offended reading my blog? Eh, no bad feeling... I am just anti-spitting, anti-no-queeing-up, and anti-粗鲁行为。That's all..

恭喜发财!万事如意!年年有余!心想事成!

Sweet memory - Dec 23rd 2005

It was the day that I started sharing bed with anotehr man, and sharing his snoring sound too. hahaha...:)

Today received the CD from my sister, for the marriage day. All the sweet memory comes back again. Although the picture that my sister took is not that fantastics, some I closed my eyes, some I looked fat and tired... some were standing too far apart. haha... luckily I engaged a professional guy for DVD. Talking about that, must chase him for the DVD, have not seen the DVD until today... hmm....

Today did not see any uncle spit, so mood is extremely good!!! and got sun today, until now at 4pm, outside was sunny. And I am sweating at office now... the heater in the office today was too geng. Or, perhaps is because just came out from a long day sales & marketing meeting. hehehe... it was a good meeting though, now I understand better how things work in Shanghai office.

Opening a bank account

Yesterday my admin personnel asked me to open a bank account at 工商银行, she said the bank opens at 8.30am, asked me go there earlier, because by 10am I shall pass the bank account number to her so my salary can be transfered by this week.

Went there at 8.40am, it has a note sticking on the wall there says office hour is from 9-12, then 1.30-4.30pm. ..... today weahter somemore very cold. Aih.. if I walked to office, then walk back at 9am, the time is wasted. If I stand there, the time is also wasted, but at least I don't have to waste energy walking... so, I chose to stay, even though is cold.

I was the first one there.

close to 9am, the door was opened, I tell u, I was number 1. But then, those uncle, ah-soh, ah-pek, ah beng, ah lian, they all flock in like a bunch of loose duck, without lining up of course, and again, I was pissed off. Damn it. THe china government should really send these people back to school again to learn waht is good manner, and to learn how to line up in 1 straight line.

So, finally the guard made them line up. I was number 9.

When it was about my time, I cought customer service lady walking pass me, asked her is this the right lane for opening bank account (you see, all my energy is channeled to get to the front line, no time to ask and no one for me to ask also whether I am at the right line, and if I stepped out and ask, my seat will be taken, and I will be number 25. I TELL U!!! So frustrated. the lady throw 3 forms at me, asked me to fill in. So I have no choice, I stepped out for 5 min to fill in, the customer service lady herself also said it is fine, just fill in and then get back to front line and get the next available counter to serve me.

I filled up, and get back to line. Those ah soh, ah pek, ah lian, ah beng (different group of course because those group they have already long gone and long served already), ignoring me I should be the next person being served, they using the light speed, run to the next available counter, before I can do anything. So there I was, standing at the front line, too slow to make any move, and being bulied by all these people... all these lowly educated ah soh, ah pek, ah lian, and ah beng. Sigh... so, I was amazed, and also still am amazed -- they do know everyone should line up and wait for their turn, even though they themselves do not like to abide by this rule. However, their stupid brain cannot think -- I was in the front line anyway, I was just stopped for 3-5 minutes to get some forms filled and signed. So like that is not called cut Q ok? Thier morning performance just now was called CUT Q.

Back to office, my running nose and coughing was back. I was swearing deep down my heart, if because of this I catch the cold again, I am gonna scream in the office!!!!!! Oh, just now on the way back to office, I saw 2 uncle spit on the road again.

I am so sick of this city. Fucking & bloodily sick.

The most valuable possession - Health

Ever since I came to Shanghai, my health was deteriorating. At first it was only a fever, then followed by sorethroat, then followed by severe coughing and running nose. My colleague accompanied me to see doctor at hospital (it is nothing serious, I am not admitted to hospital, it is simply because here does not have handy clinics like what we have in Malaysia). To avoid long q, she suggested I take the 特区服务. Do you know that it costs me RMB 151.50 just to 挂号,and another RMB 216.80 for the medicine prescribed?? I was so shocked. Then my colleague told me the 挂号fees might not get to claimed. I was looking at her with big eyes. I don't care, I will submit. This is so ridiculous. And the medicine tasted so bitter, especially the coughing solutions. My God... that is the most bitter medicine I had ever taken so far. Having said that, after took the 4 medicines, I do actually feel better, despite the bitterness stay in my mouth for hours (after 2 hours, can still feel your saliva has that taste).

I suddenly realize health is the most valuable property we have to garness. I can't sleep very well at night because of the coughing, and because of this, Jay is also affected. I am glad that he did not get infected by me. But I am most glad that he is taking great care of me. He will wake up at night when I was coughing, and leave the warm bed just to heat up the water for me to drink. I am very touched by this...

So, despite the horrible health I had lately, I am very thankful I have a very caring husband:) I really wish I can recover soon so can have some great moment with him in Shanghai. Right now during weekend, the most I can do is go grocery shopping with him. Can't do more than that because still not feeling well. Sigh...

I suddenly miss my doctor at home, Sentral Clinic, Dr. Rao:) He always tease me when he was giving the anti-hepatitis B injection. He will ask stupid question like "had your dinner?" even though the time was 9.30pm+, just to take my attention away while he was giving injection:) hehehe...

Really don't understand why China has no clinic.

New Hair Style

Getting a hair cut yesterday afternoon, thought it was a simple hair cut, 1 hour 搞定 type. But then... under the powerful pursuasion from the hair stylist, he has my permission to perm my hair!! These powerful tongue hair stylists... really a good piece of 材料to be direct selling personnel, Amway should recruit him.

It actually looked quite nice. When Jay came to get me at the end of the session (2.5 hours later), he by-passed my seat, without recognizing I am his wife. Hahaha... it was funny.

It came with a high price though - the price I paid for my hair style yesterday, is enough for Jay to do his hair cut for 50 times. No kidding.

That's how I spent my Sunday afternoon, in a windy & chilled shanghai winter.

A raining day at Shanghai on a working day...

Today is my second day of work at Shanghai office. Yesterday was my first day. It was easy to catch a cab yesterday to work because it was still a holiday to many shanghainese, and, it was not raining, and wind was not blowing crazily.

This morning, it was raining quite heavily. I thought I can handle it without any hassle since I have spent 4 years in a city called Vancouver, a city that is seldom not-raining during winter time.

I stand on the street for 10 minutes, no cab. I could have kept waiting, but the stupid wind kept molesting my umbrella!!! the wind is coming from all directions. I cannot avoid it. my umbrella overturn 2 times. I was frustrated. I started to curse. And what the heck, i decided to take MRT to work, though have to walk for 15 min after the station to office, it is still better than standing on the street and cannot guarantee to catch a cab in the next 10 min. aih....

My hair was all messed up, laptop bag was wet, and umbrella was ugly when I reached office. I started to miss my driving days in KL. sob sob... and the feeling of frustration that I expenrienced in 4 winter periods in Vancouver is over me again.

I actually miss Malaysia sun-shine..................... sob.

I hope this is not an everyday-event. I looked at my co-wokers, they are like very normal, though they are wet too, but their face do not have the frustration look. Oh-ma-ma.........................
